Can you believe it? The Grand Haven Orchestra program is kicking off its 100th year!

100 years of music, camaraderie, learning, & growth. Few communities can claim such a milestone, and even fewer can claim the excellence that the Grand Haven Orchestras have achieved and now share with our community in the form of concerts, Celtic fiddling, community ‘gigs’, the annual Irish Fest, and more. That’s why we think it’s time for a Centennial Celebration, and we hope you agree.

We'll officially begin our Centennial Celebration on Friday, October 27th, with a concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Haven High School Field House, 17001 Ferris St. Grand Haven, Michigan 49417. The event is free and open for the entire community to celebrate and honor Grand Haven’s long tradition of string excellence.

From our humble beginnings, the GHHS Orchestra was comprised of seven members. Today, there are currently 500 students enrolled in the orchestra program, grades 5 -12. The concert will feature the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, Concert, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras performing individually and combined to present a commissioned piece by nationally known Grand Haven resident composer, Bob Phillips. Past and current directors from Grand Haven will join the celebration as guests and conductors. Many alumni members, public figures have been contacted and are eager to attend the event.

During the evening’s celebration, we will honor the powerful legacy of the past directors, music teachers, and alumni and renew our commitment to being a musically passionate, community-conscious orchestra program.

The Centennial Concert will be followed at 9pm by an After Glow at St. Patrick's Family Center at 901 Columbus Ave in Grand Haven. Alumni, Sponsors, Past & Current Directors, and Centennial Board (21 and over) are welcome. The After Glow will feature appetizers and a cash bar.
